So I'm not sure if I'm 'late to the party with this New York Times series 'Women at Work' or what but if you haven't already discovered Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant's insight into the the position of women in the workplace go educate yourself!
1. When Talking About Bias Backfires
Working to raise awareness about bias can backfire if it is represented as a common discriminator that is socially acceptable. Therefore the emphasis needs to be placed on gender discrimination as socially unacceptable.
2. Speaking While Female
Essentially, because of gender roles the way in which we perceive and respond to male and female opinions and involvement in the workplace differently. This is to the disadvantage of both women and the workplace, who miss out on valuable knowledge. To combat this inequality more women are needed in leadership roles so people become more accustomed to women's contributions and leadership.
3. Madam C.E.O., Get Me a Coffee
The response to male and female help in the workplace is unbalanced because of gender stereotypes enforcing the stereotypical gender characteristics.
4. How Men Can Succeed in the Boardroom and the Bedroom
Equality is to the advantage of everyone, bring a host of social, martial, parental, economic and business advantaged.
5. Also, Coding Like a Girl, which tackles industry stereotypes and the different ways women are perceived by what they wear. Can you relate?
6. Another great article is Why Young People Are More Informed Than You Think. Disputing the traditional stereotype than young people are not as well informed on the news as older generations, this article argues younger people are actually more news say through social media networks.
I'm off skiing today for a week. I'm in desperate need of some vitamin D, fresh air, exercise (and a few drinks). Have a great weekend!
